I really find it hard to make myself turn off both my cell and the house phone. What if an emergency comes up? Well I know that it's unlikely but I just can't get myself to do it. I have attempted several times. As a matter of fact, my phone I think is my number one cause of distraction. Well I guess I'll just have to tell people of my schedule so they won't disturb me. I liked number 15. I just applied that a couple of weeks ago and it worked like magic. After eating a full meal, I can work for 4 hours straight - well provided that my phone doesn't ring.

Hey Adrian! Thanks so much for commenting and excellent idea! I definitely
like the sound of a default diary, I might just implement that strategy
myself. :) And totally agree, focus and choice are paramount.

C

Hi Cori,
My first time here. I was put onto your site by Lee's Shizzle Blog.

One of the things that I and my clients find work is to design yourself a default diary ie. design what you are going to do at certain times of the week and then only focus on that. Even if you have none of that to do today or this week then give yourself an option or take that time out. Focus and choice have to be your friends :)

Adrian

Good article - when I really need to get on with something without Internet based distractions I use my wife's PC to lock my PC out of the WiFi router. :-)

Fortunately I can do almost all of my software development work without an Internet connection!
